| Docklands Statue | |

| Site Index (Alt+1>Enter) | The Trust provides the corporate
umbrella for a statue for which a group of local people raised the fuinds over a period of years. Now in place on the north side of the Royal Victoria
Dock, adjoining the western entrance of the ExCel Exhibition Centre, the statue
depicts dockers at work and thus celebrates the past of the area
and many of its people. Apart from taking "ownership"
of the project the Trust also donated £25,000 towards the cost. |

The Statue UnveiledThe statue was formally unveiled at a special ceremony held on 24th August 2009. The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Newham, Robin Wales, and his Deputy Councillor Christine Bowden. A number of Trustees were present including Richard Gooding, the the Chairman of the Trust's Executive Committee, who participated in the ceremony. Also there was Councillor Pat Holland and former seaman John Ringwood who over the years have been leading lights in securing the statue. The event was attended by many former dockers and stevedores and the statue was annointed and blessed by the Rev Canon Ann Easter of All Saints Church, West Ham.
